About
Thanks for dropping by. My name is Mark. I recently completed my PhD in sociology with an emphasis on the social and cultural aspects of new media/technologies. My dissertation research focused on young people and better understanding the meanings and implications of new technologies on their social interactions and relationships. I particularly address the use of these technologies in the development, maintenance, and presentation of self/identity.
I’m interested in most aspects of social-mobile technologies with a particular emphasis on intersections with social, cultural, youth, legal, education, and media studies. I describe myself as a social technologist because I’m interested in what’s happening @ the intersection of people & technology.
I also have my Master’s in Student Affairs and worked in Student Life/Activities for several years. My current regular working gig is in higher education doing training and consulting with faculty related to the use of educational, instructional, Web 2.0, and social technologies. I also teach classes on the sociology of media and technology (among others).
